Machine Collet 101: How To Choose The Right Collet
Просмотров 9 тыс.2 года назад
WHAT IS A COLLET & WHAT ARE COLLETS USED FOR? A collet is a form of chuck that forms a collar around a tool, like an end mill or drill for example, and exerts a strong clamping force on the object when it is tightened. It may also be used to hold a workpiece. Collets reliably allow fast chucking (tool changes), strong and steady clamping, and precise self-centering that makes them critical for ...

Now that I have looked at my micrometer more closely, (since watching your video), I see that my model has a thimble that goes up to 50 per revolution. Not sure how I read the scale on mine with this arrangement. My model is made by W. M. Welch Manufacturing Company.
Missed school today great review 🫡
STOP TALKING SO FAST
Thank you!😊
Thank you. Very informative video explained easily understandable instructions
It would be helpful to always say the "point" before the number.
Thank you
Thanks your videos are awesome. I’ve learned a lot watching them.
Thank you. Very useful. I think I need these.
1:06 you made a mistake its 10th of an inch not 100 thousand of an inch
The batteries don't go DEAD in dial calipers
this is so good at showing how stupid that imperial system is compared to the metric like the rest of the world use
Many thanks.
Thanks for the informative video.
Very helpful.
Great Video! Thank you 🔥👏💪🫶
This brought me back to the days of computing fire missions with a plotting board. IYKYK
If it comes unloose how do tighten it back correctly? I’m struggling maybe it’s because I don’t have the right tool or maybe just simply because I’m not doing it right not sure
Good tutorial. Unfortunately, I have a screw that fused to its hole, the head broke and it is made of a very tough metal that I cannot even drill through it. Maybe I should weld a head or something of that kind to be able to extract it.
That's a tough one, but you might be onto a good idea there. If nothing else works, a last resort I've used is to find a shop that has a ram (sinker) EDM. I've even had broken taps removed that way.
The tool simply does not work, in my testing, save your money.
Goated forever
Please explain the sorcery behind alignment of the headstock
Yeagh I was wondering the same , I guess he just figured he would let the viewer figure that part out for himself, on their Own specific Lathe ?
Headstocks are rarely able to be aligned. They're very rigid and usually not adjustable.
@@wonbythe1 We are talking about RUNOUT ... the Headstock , IF and when it is at perfect ZERO Runout , IS , the absolute Center , the tailstock needs to conform to that Center .
Good sound advice!
Thank you, Andrew. That's very encouraging.
thank you so much for your information you can't believe i got a job because of this video
I sometimes tram my quill to the vise by placing a 1 2 3 block against the quill and the front of the flat portion of the vise. Once it sits flat on both side it’s pretty much tramed. Like finding the center of a rod with a flat
Como se llama la escuadra que usa
Great video and great information
Thank you, wemcal.
Excellent video!
Thanks, great tip!
Very much appreciate this video. My reel is fixed!
That's great for the horizontal axis. What about aligning it vertically?
Thanks, DH. As long as you can hold it between two centers and run an indicator from one end to the other, the angle it's at doesn't matter.
Micrometer in inches.
Thanks a million!! Friday, 3:30pm, just trying to make it happen!!🙏🙏
Thanks, TheDsFinest. Have a great weekend!
Excellent Video and well explained...
Thank you, Uptown. That's very encouraging.
@@wonbythe1 I thought I would share why I needed to know how to read a micrometer that we have had here since I was a kid. I've been a guitarist (for many years) I need at times to measure what gauge strings are on some of my instruments (as it can be hard at times to keep track with multiple instruments). This way I can replace them with the same gauge strings, or if I want to restring with slightly heavier or lighter strings. Guitar strings are measured in thousands. Examples: .007, .008, .009 (these would be high E strings gauges., Wound strings could be for example ,024 to .050 and larger depending on the type guitar (acoustic guitar or electric....bass even larger). Thanks again for the very detailed video and your previous reply. All the best. Philip Jersey Shore Area
if you do the thing, and you do it right, and you don't fuck it up... it works it JUST WORKS!
Thank you I’m going in to work tomorrow at 4am to recheck my numbers you saved my job if it wasn’t for you i would lose it because my numbers were fake
Thanks, Jacob. That's very encouraging to me. I do have to commend you for persevering, figuring it out, and making it right. Companies need more people like you.
For an outside measurement, wouldn't you want to find the highest spot?
Yes, assuming you're not measuring a groove, or any other type of a recess. But you'll need to find the smallest measurement of the highest spot. At 5:35 into this video, you'll notice me rocking the calipers back & forth to find the smallest measurement.
I have watched so many videos about how to cut the crown moulding, but this one is the best! Thanks
Thank you Sir! You are a hero!
Well done. Thank you
Thanks, Teddy. 😊

Watching this video after getting a ball micrometer. Super helpful. Thank you.
Thanks, Quadshot308. I'm glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this. I'm going into machining and this is one of the tools I've never had hands on at home to learn, and in just a couple minutes I feel like I've already mastered it. Great explanation!
Thank you, JeSuisNerd. That's very encouraging, since that's what I was hoping to accomplish.
I've been using these for over 20 years and never knew this
Thank you. It's been a while and this was a great refresher. Very well put together video, my man. :)
Thank you, Kiltic Studios. You're very encouraging!
thanks
Great idea
to many variables such as the carriage, chuck , tailstock adjustment.
Chance lost for "just the tip, just a little bit" at 1:49😢 Identified my no-name lathe as having a MT2 though, so cheers!
Measuring tools are so cool!
